Catch up on my instant 365 project

My instant photo 365 is a challenge. There are days when I take an image, realize it isn’t going to work, and have to stop for the day because the conditions won’t change and I don’t want to waste the film. Some of these kind of crummy shots will still get used somewhere else, in a layer for another image, or just as a book mark. I’ll post a few of the crummy ones because right now it is showing that I am learning how to use some new films, and a new camera, but after awhile, I won’t post them, just a little note about that day.

Here we go!

Instant photo #7

April_05th

Our living room window is one of my favorite parts of this little place we live in.

Instant photo #8

April_06th

This one didn’t come out at all because it was too late at night and too dark. The blue and green and the texture are cool though, and they will look great as a layer in one of my compilation images.

I’m learning the limits of the new TIP 680 film and low light…

My tulips are starting to pop up! Also, I like using the old Chocolate film in my Land Camera.

Who doesn’t love the spoon and cherry at The Walker? :)

Instant photo #12
This one was really dark and murky. I was testing the low light capabilities of my Land Camera and discovering that it really depends on the film that is in it. I don’t feel like posting it, but it does exist.

It snowed last night. The only good thing about it was that the trees were very pretty this morning. It seems like all the snow is gone now.

A catch up on my cell phone 365 project

I have been keeping up on both of my 365 projects. I’m actually really proud of that. Usually I have slipped by this time and given up. I am, however, quite behind on posting them. So, here is a catch up for one project, my cell phone self portrait 365.

Cell phone photo #8

I had been crazy busy trying to get new artwork done to take to Bloomington Art Center. Somedays, you feel like all you are is a working, creating machine.

Some days are just kind of blurry.

I took this because my thought process led me down a path where at the end I was very grateful that I have made the choices in my life that have led me to so many places where my scars don’t matter.

Today. Thanks to the cold weather we have suddenly again, it is a long sock kind of day.

I’m not at all pretending that these are the best photos I’ve ever taken, but that isn’t the point of this project. The point of this project is to force myself to use a different camera, to try taking more self portraits (without it getting too boring!) and to stick with a project that forces me to be creative everyday even for just a minute.

I’ve made it this far.
Until next time,

A family photo time of year…

With the start of spring (yes, it really is spring, even though it snowed again) the fun family portrait sessions start again. First up this year was Anna! She just turned one year old! The amazing thing about this little photo shoot, is that it actually took place near the Overnight Web Challenge put on by The Nerdery. We stole Anna’s dad from the web coding action for just a bit to go take some photos, and had a lot of fun.

Love Poem was published!!

Craftstravaganza_2011_flyer

Just a quick little note to say that the ‘Love Poem’ video I made in a collaboration with the talented Kathryn Kysar was chosen by the Two Year Colleges Association within the National Council of Teachers of English to celebrate National Poetry Month! It is now published on their website for April 13th. I am so pleased that they were impressed with our collaboration and chose to use it on their website in honor of Poetry Month!

Craftstravaganza is coming very soon! Jes Lee Photos and Dad and Kiddo Pottery will be sharing a booth. I hope you can stop by and see us!

Today is the last day to order any cards from my Etsy shop for awhile. Most listings expire today, and I won’t be renewing them until the end of the month.

I’m still working on my 365 photo projects as well. Updates to come very soon!

Until next time,
~Peace~

A catch up on photos

Today it was almost a relief to snuggle up in my chair in front of my computer and get down to business checking projects off of my to-do list.

Saturday I volunteered for an event called ‘Making Memories’ (This was all I could find about it on the web: http://www.ysa.org/grants/grantee/zimmerman-high-school though hopefully there will be more posted soon!) There were four photographers total, and many other volunteers, and together we did family photo sessions for about 75 families that can’t afford family photos. My mom came with to help me out, and together we worked with 9 different families. It was pretty amazing! Now on to processing all of those photos and getting them back to the families.

Since I had all of my photo equipment jammed in the trunk of my car this weekend, I also set up a little photo studio at my parent’s restaurant and did family photos for one of our cooks. You can tell it is spring when the family photo sessions start up again!

I have kept up so far on both of my 365 photo projects, and honestly, they are helping me keep my sanity when most of what I’m doing is digital processing right now. Without further ado, here is my weekend in photos:

Cell phone self portrait day #5

I have an Android Nexus 1 phone, and the best photo app I have found by far is a little app called Vignette. It has a lot of film type effects, and is just generally fun. The best is that you can set it to random and be completely surprised by the effects that come out…hence, smurf Jes. I kind of like it though, so it’s staying in my project.

Self portraits don’t always include your face.

Me, today, in my computer chair, wearing my ‘I believe in peace bitch’ t-shirt purchased at a Tori Amos concert. It was a good shirt for today.

Instant photo day 4
March_009
On Saturday we had to stop at the State Fair Grounds to pick up some fliers for Crafstravaganza. We drove around a bit so I could find something to take a photo of. I love the All You Can Drink Milk booth, mostly because my mom used to work there when it was 5¢ for all you could drink.

Instant photo day 5
March_008
One of my favorite signs of spring is when we are driving in my husband’s car and it is warm enough to open the sun roof. Sunday was the first day we were riding together when it was open. I took this through said sunroof as we were driving down our street.

Instant photo day 6

The clouds were kind of amazing today – so I stepped out on the deck and took this looking up.

These 3 instant photos are taken with the new color film from The Impossible Project. I love it!

Tomorrow is a big day

My cameras are packed and batteries charged for a big family photo shoot tomorrow. There is not much else to report, but I have kept up on my 365 photos, so here they are:

Adventures in the life

The events of today don’t really matter.
There were a lot of photos taken, a hair cut appointment, a bus ride, and time spent cutting bookmarks and thank you notes and paper for a ton of blank cards that will hopefully be well received at Crafstravaganza, delivering instant film, picking up socks to be sent to Japan, and receiving a little gift package of Fuji peel apart film that I have not yet tried before.
I’m a little wiped out, but it was an awesome day! Somehow, I have managed to keep up with all of the little photo projects, so here you are:

Instant photo (day 2)

Reflections on Washington Ave.

March_006

This I actually took yesterday (it is the Moses of the Desert plant my friend at work gave me).
Yesterday I didn’t like it very much. Today, after it has had more time to clear up, I like it better.

Both were taken with the PX-100 FF color film. I have to finish this pack before I can try any of the new stuff!
