A rounded, leather, drop spine box, or what I’m doing at MCBA

P290

I was at MCBA at 8:45 this morning. Yes, that is in fact early for me. Yes, I’m still there right now. Yes, I’ll be back again tomorrow. But, you know those cool boxes that look like old leather bound books, but aren’t books at all, but a place to hide things no one would suspect? I’m making one of those today! There is a lot of work left to be done on it, but it is going very smoothly so far. This is giving me an idea for a show I’m putting together in 2013. Yes, that is a long way off, and I have a few other shows to get through first. But, it is very exciting to have an idea.

The photo is of my book box so far!

I apologize for not adding any links in this post. There will be a much more thorough post with all of that later!

Until next time,

Definitely a two cup kind of day.

P270

It is definitely a two cup of coffee kind of day! I’ve been working hard getting things caught up and organized so I don’t feel so behind when I spend the rest of the week in class at MCBA. This class is one taught by Jana Pullman and she will teach us how to make a box with a leather binding on the side. I’m excited – I really have plans for this one! You’ll see!

Yesterday was a day of pottery and catching up on making prints for the Pretend the World show that opens August 20th at Banfill Locke Center for the Arts. I also managed to get a piece together to submit to the State Fair competition. There is so much going on, but today, I’m very excited about all of it, and looking forward to all of the new artwork chances that are coming.

In other news, sadly, my little 365 projects have kind of fallen by the wayside. While great in theory, we just don’t always have the best of weather here for the daily instant shots. And the self portrait thing was starting to bug me. Just not my thing right now. So, beginning in August I’m trying again, but just with a photo a day. Anything, anywhere. Also, it will be blogged here immediately upon taking it, so there will be no more of those annoying ‘catch up posts’ I was constantly doing. We’ll see how that goes!

For now, I’m off to be a waitress for most of the day, and a but of an artist tonight.

Until next time,
~Peace~

Where does it all go?

Time. Money. Summer. Yeah, all the fun things fly past. I think that is the way it is supposed to be though … the whole ‘live hard and fast’ mentality. I have been doing that lately, in between bouts of taking it very very easy. Lately I have been getting artwork ready to show in a group exhibition in August, trying to get a piece ready to submit to the State Fair, making plans with friends, working on a new logo and website look for my aunt, working on more poetry videos, trying to write some poetry myself, designing new greeting cards and prints, applying for more festivals this fall, and spending a bit of time in my aunt’s pool. It really has been a great summer. Hotter than most, but I don’t mind that too much. That just gives me more reason to get my work done early in the day, and spend the later half somewhere cool.
Today, it is hot and rainy. (The rain is really the only part I strongly dislike about this hot weather, simply because after the rain, it smells like hot worms outside. I seriously can’t stand that. I was traumatized by a 5th grade teacher who had a huge fish tank with big fish that the boys fed worms to. Traumatized.) I have zip for energy today for some reason, so I’m trying to be a little more kind to myself and take it easy. Mostly I am going through artwork from previous shows and seeing what is no longer worth having framed so I can reuse the frames. Beyond that I’ll do a little bit of pottery, and a little bit of coating mylar with india ink so I can make some scratch negatives. Just a quiet little art day.

Some of you who follow this blog will notice that I am on Instagram now and that I post all of my Instagram photos here. I apologize if this bothers you. I do this because I trust Posterous’ terms of service much more than many other places. Plus, I like keeping things neat and in one place. Please don’t think that all I will be doing is posting photos like that here though. There will be updates! I promise!

Until next time,
